🕒 Practice Schedule

Monday & Wednesday

  • 18:00 – 19:00 | Beginner & Junior Class

  • 19:00 – 20:30 | Intermediate Class

  • 20:30 – 21:30 | Open Class (All Levels)

Sunday

  • 13:00 – 15:00 | Open Practice (All Levels)

📌 No practice on statutory holidays.

📅 Training Terms

Training is organized into three terms per year, each lasting 4 months:

  • Winter Term: January – April

  • Summer Term: May – August

  • Fall Term: September – December

📝 Registration Process (How to Join)

Chinook Kendo Dojo follows a structured registration process to ensure safety, proper instruction, and a positive training environment.

Step 1 – Recruitment Periods

New students are accepted three times per year only:

  • January

  • May

  • September

Step 2 – Free Trial Class (Required)

All prospective students must attend a Free Trial Class during the recruitment period.

The trial class allows you to:

  • Experience authentic Kendo training

  • Meet instructors and members

  • Learn about dojo culture, expectations, and safety

⚠️ No payment or registration is required before the trial class.

Step 3 – Instructor Review

After the trial class, the instructor will:

  • Confirm suitability for training

  • Recommend appropriate class placement

  • Provide guidance on equipment and next steps

Step 4 – Official Registration

Students approved by the instructor will be invited to complete:

  • Online Registration Form

  • Liability Waiver & Code of Conduct Agreement

Registration instructions are provided after instructor approval.

🎒 Beginner Equipment Package

A beginner equipment package is available and includes:

  • Kendo Uniform (Keikogi & Hakama)

  • Shinai (Bamboo Sword)

  • Bokken (Wooden Sword)

  • Shinai Bag

🏯 Organizational Affiliation

Chinook Kendo Dojo is:

  • A registered member dojo of the Canadian Kendo Federation (CKF)

  • An organization under the International Kendo Federation (FIK)

This ensures:

  • Recognized grading examinations

  • Eligibility for official tournaments and seminars

  • Liability insurance coverage through federation-sanctioned activities

⚠️ Important Notices

  • Inform instructors of any medical conditions or allergies before training

  • Students must follow all safety instructions at all times

  • Refunds are only available if a student is deemed unfit to train by the instructor

  • Disruptive behavior or failure to follow instructions may result in removal from the dojo

📜 Dojo Code of Conduct

At Chinook Kendo Dojo, we uphold traditional Kendo values of discipline, respect, and self-improvement.

1. Show Respect

Always bow when entering and exiting the dojo. Respect instructors, fellow students, and the training space.

2. Be Punctual

Arrive on time and prepared. If late, wait respectfully for permission before joining class.

3. Practice Cleanliness

Maintain clean uniforms and equipment. Keep nails trimmed and remove jewelry before practice.

4. Train with Focus

Follow instructions carefully. Avoid unnecessary chatter and distractions.

5. Support One Another

Encourage fellow members, especially beginners. We grow together.

6. Prioritize Safety

Use equipment properly and communicate with your training partner. Report injuries immediately.

7. Maintain the Dojo

Help keep the dojo clean and organized. All members share responsibility.
